Makerere- Nelson Mandela University strengthen ties to find solutions to African challenges

On 30th April 2018, the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe together with the Vice Chancellor of Nelson Mandela University Prof Sibongile Muthwa signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the long term relationship between the two universities. The signing ceremony was held in the Council Room and was witnessed by the High Commissioner of South Africa to Uganda H.E. Prof.  Major-General (rtd) Lekoa Solly Mollo, the Senior Director at Nelson Mandela University Prof. Nico Jooste , the Director of Legal Affairs Mr.

30 Chinese Embassy Scholarships For Continuing Students 2018/2019

Chinese Ambassador to Uganda-H.E Zheng Zhuqiang and Vice Chancellor-Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe (Centre) surrounded by Members of Staff, Family and performers after the Chinese New Year Show held in the Main Hall, 11th February 2018. The show was presented by the Inner Mongolia Bureau of National Art Troupe from China.

The Chinese Embassy in Uganda has offered Makerere University 30 scholarships to be awarded to continuing students in various Colleges for Academic Year 2018/2019. These scholarships shall be administered by the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate (GMD), Makerere University.

The total scholarship offer is UGX2,800,000 (Two million, eight hundred thousand shillings only) for 2018/2019. Renewal is subject to review.

RUFORUM Hosts OCP Africa Delegation

On Thursday, 26th April 2018, a delegation of four from OCP Africa was hosted for a meeting at the the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) Secretariat, Makerere University. An overview of RUFORUM was made to the team by Dr. Solange Uwituze, The Program Manager for Partnerships and Business Management, who highlighted the flagships of the RUFORUM Vision 2030 and possible areas of collaboration between RUFORUM and OCP Africa.

Amity University Uttar Pradesh (AUUP) of India in collaboration with the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CoCIS), Makerere University announce a partnership aimed at imparting education to students in Uganda. The degrees and the diplomas will be awarded to successful candidates by the University and will run 3 tracks of degrees i.e. Diplomas, Undergraduate/Graduate programs, and Post-graduate diplomas.

School of Women and Gender Studies Receives DGF Grant to Implement Gender Equality Project

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, signed a Partnership Agreement with the Democratic Governance Facility (DGF), Monday April 23, alongside Mr. Wim Stoffers, Head of the DGF. The partnership is for the implementation of a Gender Equality Project (GEP) implemented by the School of Women and Gender Studies (SWGS).

Imperial Group of Hotels Partners with Makerere University and AUUS ahead of the 3rd FISU World University Netball Championship 2018

Makerere University in conjunction with the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) is set to host the 3rd FISU World University Netball Championship 2018. According to the Head-Secretariat, Local Organising Committee Ms Penninah Kabenge, the event is scheduled to take place on 17th-21st September 2018 and Eleven (11) countries have confirmed participation in the Netball Championship.

This was during the Mak-Sweden Bilateral Research Annual Planning Meeting (APM) that was held on Monday 23rd April 2018 under a theme: “Harnessing the power of research and innovations for social transformation.”
