Statement on the Authenticity of Makerere Degrees & Ongoing Investigations

With reference to the various media reports relating to the authenticity of Makerere University Degrees, the University Management wishes to state that Makerere has the duty to protect and secure the integrity of its academic credentials and has thus issued a statement to provide a consistent message on the matter.

Makerere University and Mount Kenya University on 19th September 2017 signed a memorandum of understanding where the two institutions have agreed to collaborate in the improvement of higher education in the region.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has today Friday 15th September 2017 handed over office as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance & Administration) to Prof. William Bazeyo.

According to the Chairperson of Council, Eng. Dr. Charles Wana-Etyem, Prof. William Bazeyo with a track record in resource mobilization and frugal financial management will serve in this capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Deputy Vice Chancellor (F&A).

Mak Trains 4th Cohort of Pig Artificial Insemination Technicians

29 Technicians from 16  districts of Uganda have completed a one week’s training  in different  aspects of  Pig Artificial Insemination (AI) at Makerere University  Agricultural Research Institute under  the project titled, “Improvement of Pig Productivity, Diversification of Piglet Nutrition Options and Upscaling of Pig Artificial Insemination in Uganda" (DIVERSE PIG project).

New Makerere University Vice Chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe Installed

His Excellence the President of the Republic of Uganda and Visitor to Makerere University Gen. The newly appointed Vice Chancellor Makerere University, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has been installed.

Prof. Nawangwe becomes the 11th Vice Chancellor of Makerere University since the University was established as an autonomous institution in 1970.

Nawangwe replaces Prof. John Ddumba-Ssentamu after expiry of his five year term of service from 1st September, 2012-31st August, 2017.

Africa Regional International Staff / Student Exchange

The Africa Regional International Staff / Student Exchange (ARISE) Programme invites applications from African nationals for a limited number of staff mobility scholarships. Permanent members of staff from ARISE partner universities are invited to apply for a minimum 1 month or maximum 3 months staff mobility at one of the six African partner universities. These scholarships will build capacity by facilitating specialist training for staff at partner institutions and advance knowledge through collaborative teaching and research.

The Office of the Academic Registrar has released lists of students whose applications for change of Programme/Course/Subject have been approved  for the Academic Year 2017/2018. The list includes MUBS and all its campuses.

A delegation of postgraduate students and their lecturers led by Mr. Nico Elema, Manager Centre for Collaboration in Africa (CCA) at Stellenbosch University visited Makerere University from Tuesday 5th – Friday 8th September 2017. Over the a number of years, fruitful and well established relations has existed between Stellenbosch University and Makerere University with various activates emanating from this relationship.

On 8th September 2017, the Department of Distance and Lifelong Learning at Makerere University organised an orientation for the Bachelor of Education External students. Held in the Makerere College Dining Hall, the orientation aimed at introducing the new students to their course and also provide a guiding tool on how they can manage the distance education mode of study.

The President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on 31st August 2017 launched the Makerere University Annual Nelson Mandela Commemorative Lecture. The launch followed a public lecture in honour of Nelson Mandela organized by the Department of Political Science and Public Administration in collaboration with the South African High Commission.
