Mak Set to Launch HERS-EA Inaugural Leadership Academy

The Inaugural HERS-EA Leadership Academy will run from 2nd to 7th July 2017, Makerere University, Kampala Uganda

Higher Education Resource Services, East Africa (HERS-EA) Leadership ACADEMY provides an intensive leadership and management development curriculum which equips women with skills needed to advance their personal career development and successfully navigate the institutional environment where they operate. The goal of the HERS-EA training is to raise the proportion of women in leadership and management positions in higher education institutions in East Africa (Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Rwanda, and Uganda).

On Tuesday 27th June 2017, the British High Commission in partnership with Chicago Bridge & Iron Company (CB&I) and Makerere University, held a cocktail reception to sign an Engineering placement agreement and send off two students; James Odong Etot and Tracy Tusiime, for Oil and Gas placements in the UK.

At a special meeting held today,Thursday 29th June 2017, Makerere University Council considered the recommendation of the University Senate.

The University Senate on Wednesday 28th June 2017 endorsed the Vice Chancellor Search Committee report recommending three (3) candidates namely: Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, Prof. Edward K. Kirumira and Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba.

According to the Chairperson of Council, Eng. Dr. Charles Wana-Etyem, 22 members of Council have participated in the voting process:

The 11th Community Based Adaption (CBA11) Youth  conference was opened on 28th June, 2017 at Hotel Africana in Kampala on the theme, “Enhancing  the ability of youth to build ecosystem resilience”. The conference was officially opened by the FAO Country representative for Uganda, Alhajji M.Jalllow and attended by  the EU  Acting Head of Cooperation Mr. Cedric Merel.

To effectively tap into the existing innovations in the innovation ecosystem, Makerere University School of Public Health-ResilientAfrica Network (RAN) announced the Resilience Innovation Acceleration Program (RIAP) Grants Call 2, March 2017.  RIAP recognizes and supports promising and creative ideas from students and faculty at the Eastern Africa Resilience Innovation Lab (EA RILab) partner universities as well as the general innovation community in East Africa.

The 11th International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation (CBA11) has been officially opened by Uganda’s Minister of Water and Environment Hon. Sam Cheptoris at the Royale Suites, Bugolobi, Kampala. The conference  was opened on 26th June, 2017 and also graced by  the Ambassador of Ireland  to Uganda H.E Donal Cronin, IIED  Climate Change Director  Clare Shakya,  the United Nations Environmental Program representative Mette Wilkie, Chair, Least Developed Countries’ Gebru Endalew and Makerere University Vice Chancellor-Prof.
