Prof. Banadda, Dr. Kabenge to Co-Chair RAEng Symposium in Madagascar

Makerere University’s Prof. Noble Banadda and Dr. Isa Kabenge both from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) will co-chair Sessions at the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) Symposium slated to take place from 27th to 29th November 2019 in Madagascar. The Symposium has been arranged under RAEng’s Frontiers of Engineering for Development and will be held under the theme “From feeding people to nourishing people”.

Frontiers of Engineering for Development brings together 60 of the best early and mid-career researchers and practitioners from industry, academia, NGOs and the public sector in multidisciplinary workshops that address fundamental development challenges.

Prof. Noble Banadda is the first African recipient of the Pius XI Medal, 12th November 2018.

The objectives of these symposia are to encourage collaborative work that addresses international development challenges and promotes cross-disciplinary thinking among the next generation of engineering leaders.

The symposium will consist of three interactive sessions under the themes: Agricultural revolution; Healthy diets; as well as Food loss and waste. Prof. Banadda will co-chair the three-day symposium together with Dr. Tahrat Shahid, GCRF Challenge Leader, Food Systems and Gender, while Dr. Kabenge will co-chair a session on; “How do we tackle losses and waste of foods already produced?” under the Food loss and food waste theme alongside Annie Chimphango, Associate Professor, Process Engineering Department, Stellenbosch University.

Dr. Isa Kabenge, Lecturer, Department of Agricultural and BioSystems Engineering, Makerere University, Kampala Uganda.

Prof. Noble Banadda is the Chair, Department of Agricultural and BioSystems Engineering, School of Food Technology, Nutrition and Bioengineering, while Dr. Isa Kabenge is a Lecturer in the same Department with research interests in nutrient cycles, food waste and environment management.

We congratulate Prof. Banadda and Dr. Kabenge upon the respective selections by RAEng and wish them fruitful networking sessions in Madagascar as they fly Makerere University’s flag high!
