It was a moment of joy when Makerere University together with other invited guests celebrated the graceful and memorable period of their former University Bursar Mr. Augustine Tamale. This was at a colourful farewell party organised by Makerere University Finance Department on 29th June 2018 to celebrate Mr. Tamale’s dedicated service at Makerere University.
Donned in an elegant silver grey suit, Mr. Augustine Tamale could not hide his happiness. In a calm and gentle voice he said, “This is a moment of mixed feelings. There is joy that I am moving to another place, but I had bonded with so many people here whom I miss dearly. Makerere University has lifted my profile so high-the University Bursar managing billions and billions. It was worthwhile being here. I will continue to give support to the team in the Finance Department when called upon.”
He thanked Makerere University Management, Makerere University Council and the entire University community for the opportunity offered to him to serve the great and legendary Institution.
In the same spirit, he thanked staff in the Finance Department for the cooperation that enabled him to deliver to the University’s expectation. He called for unity in the Department and encouraged members to always stand for honesty, one of the pillars of accounting profession.
“I believe that you will achieve the best if you are united, even if I have gone , I will continue to support you, I am just a phone call away, I wish you prosperity. In all your individual plans, I pray that the good Lord rewards you accordingly. May the Lord God Bless you abundantly,” he said.
Mr. Augustine Tamale was appointed substantive University Bursar on 7th November 2015. He resigned from this position after serving Makerere University for a period of two years and eight months. On Thursday 28th June 2018, Mr. Tamale officially handed over office to the now Acting University Bursar, Ms Deborah Nalule. He will forever be remembered as a man of his word and a professional accountant who ensured transparency and efficiency of financial transactions in the University.
At the vivacious party that was held in the Makerere University Guest House Garden, the Vice Chancellor represented by the Principal of College of Business and Management Sciences Dr. Eria Hisali, appreciated Mr. Tamale’s commitment to his job and thanked him for standing for professionalism during his time of service.
“When we occupy these offices let us do work, do it well, and do it in a way that our contribution is remembered. Mr. Tamale, we shall always remember you as a man of your word and a noble cause of professionalism,” he said.
To the incoming Acting University Bursar, Dr. Hisali said, “Thank you for accepting this position. During this period, you may find that there are a number of reporting requirements needed, re-organise your team so that work continues smoothly.”
On behalf of Makerere University Finance Department, the Acting Manager Finance and Administration Mr. Lubowa Ssebina Gyaviira thanked Mr. Tamale for teaching staff in the Finance Department the importance of professionalism, hard work, timely reporting and respect for each other.
At the peak of the ceremony, Mr. Tamale received a plaque as a sign of appreciation for the unmeasurable service he rendered to the University. The Plaque was handed over to him by the Director of Internal Audit Mr. Walter Yorac Nono on behalf of Makerere University. Amidst applause, he also received several gifts from the Finance Department, Members of staff and well-wishers.
Guests were treated to a sumptuous dinner and drinks. After serving the cake, Mr. Augustine Tamale opened the dance joined by invited guests and members of staff.
