On Saturday 20th May 2017, Makerere University Convocation shared with the staff and alumni key updates on the ongoing fundraising drive for the Makerere University Perimeter Wall.

On behalf of the Makerere University Convocation, the Chairperson Dr. Odoi-Tanga revealed that they intend to flag off the construction works in July 2017 using a “work in progress” method. The Makerere University Perimeter Wall Project will be undertaken in partnership with the UPDF and Civil Engineering staff and students from the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology-Makerere University.

 “We have so far raised UGX41 million out of the UGX5billion needed to complete the construction work. This money has been deposited on the Makerere University Perimeter Wall Project Account in Stanbic Bank. We hope to start the foundation work soon with the available money as the fundraising process continues,” remarked Dr. Odoi-Tanga amidst applause from Members who turned up for the Staff and Alumni Luncheon held at Makerere University Research Institute Kabanyolo (MUARIK).Makerere University Convocation Team together with members of staff.

On 21st February 2017, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda Rt. Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda together with the Makerere University Chancellor Prof. Ezra Suruma launched the Makerere University Perimeter Wall construction project with the aim of raising substantial amount of money through a fundraising drive dubbed; “Security for Mak-Students and Staff First”.

According to Dr. Odoi-Tanga the Perimeter wall once built will boost security at campus by designating well-secured points of entry and exit at strategic locations. He therefore called upon all stakeholders, alumni, and well wishers of Makerere University to contribute towards its successful completion.

“We request you to support this project with any contribution you can make. You can make your contribution today or at any of our upcoming fundraising functions. Let us be part of this positive cause as we build for the future,” he said.
