Makerere University Volleyball team this year joined the Inter-University competition to tussle it out for the Men’s Institutional Title in a five-team group comprising of Nkumba, Makerere, Ndejje, Air Force and Uganda Christian Universities. The two-day tournament was held on 21st and 22nd June 2014 played out on the round robin basis.

In this tournament hosts Nkumba successfully defended the title after topping the group, in which Makerere University lost all three sets. Nevertheless, Makerere Coach Mr. Kawooya Eric complimented the Men, noting that it was a good and promising start for the new team.

“Since it was a new team playing for the first time, I want to say that it was a wonderful play and I do believe that next season we will be able to improve,” Mr. Kawooya said.

He acknowledged that the New Team lacked sufficient experience compared to compatriots from other Universities like Ndejje and Nkumba. The Coach was however looking forward to seeing his team joining the National Volleyball League and engaging in other tournaments.

“I hope we shall make it because we have now constituted permanent volleyball teams for both the Makerere University Students and Staff,” he explained.

In related developments, Nkumba University Women’s Volleyball team and Sport S (Men) have both qualified for the play-off finals of the National Volleyball League after seeing off strong opposition on Sunday.
