World Veterinary Day highlights VETMED's diversity

Whereas Rakai district will play host to the main celebrations tomorrow Saturday 24th April 2010, the Veterinary fraternity descended upon their cradle: The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine on 22nd April 2010, to give back to the community that nurtured them.

Up to 75% of emerging human diseases are of animal origin..

World veterinary Day was first celebrated by the World Veterinary Association in 2001 and is celebrated annually on the last Saturday of April. The Theme for the year 2010: ‘One world, One Health: more cooperation between veterinarians and physicians’.

Vet to improve National Diagnostic Capacity for Animal Disease Control

The Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) , and the government of Uganda through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF) and Makerere University, have agreed to implement a national project in animal diseases control with Makerere University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (MAK-FVM) as a key government authority and central service provider.
